Origins and development
The cemetery opened in 1807 and expanded after both world wars. It has belonged to Düsseldorf since Unterrath’s incorporation in 1909. A chapel and ancillary buildings were added in 1931; a memorial area for 18 war dead followed in 1971. New viewing rooms have been available since 2005. An outdoor columbarium in section 34 added a maintenance-free urn option in January 2026.
